This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the City of Colorado Springs as a Maintenance Technician I. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties in support of the Quality of Life Team in Neighborhood Services.
Key Responsibilities- Maintenance and Repair: Perform maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, drainage systems, grounds, and trails.
- Grounds Maintenance: Remove and properly dispose of litter, debris, rubbish, overgrown vegetation, graffiti, unpermitted signs, and other blighting influences throughout the City.
- Yard Maintenance: Mow yards, pick up trash, and clean vacated homeless encampments.
- Secure Vacant Structures: Secure vacant structures safely using hand and power tools and other equipment/supplies.
- Field Inspections: Perform field inspections; assess necessary repair and maintenance work.
- Equipment Operation: Operate various hand and power tools and shop equipment.
- Work Orders: Complete assigned work orders; ensure compliance with City standards and specifications; maintain operation records, and file reports.
- Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
- Driver's License: Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges.
- Experience: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.
- Graffiti Removal Experience: Graffiti removal experience is highly desirable.
- Building Maintenance Experience: Building maintenance experience is highly desirable.
- Commercial Driver's License: Possess a valid, non-probationary Colorado Class A or B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly, and possible exposure to biohazardous materials. The primary work environment is an office environment with travel from site to site. The position may also involve exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibrations, physical hazards, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and exposure to communicable diseases.
