POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Team Leader is accountable for supervising production staff, machinery, and materials to ensure adherence to customer quality expectations and timelines. This role requires effective communication with all department heads and involves various related responsibilities. The supervisor collaborates closely with department managers to enhance workforce productivity. Investments in employee training, advanced technology, and equipment are key components of this position. The leader is also responsible for monitoring the quality of raw materials to ensure compatibility with production processes. Establishing benchmarks, protocols, and objectives is essential for assessing production expenses and workforce efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains production schedules to fulfill customer commitments by optimizing the use of equipment and personnel. Authorizes overtime and time-off requests as needed.
- Oversees the maintenance and repair of all production machinery: receives daily updates from supervisors regarding equipment status; coordinates significant repairs with sales and production to avoid missing customer deadlines; confirms with supervisors that all mechanical and electrical safety measures are functional at all times; arranges for external maintenance and equipment through the purchasing department as required; ensures that all safety features and guards are operational consistently.
- Reviews production schedules and communicates with sales teams regarding any delays.
- Directs the activities of production staff: assigns daily tasks as well as short-term and long-term objectives; addresses procedural and technical inquiries; meets with production staff individually and in groups to resolve issues; reviews all production documentation daily and forwards it to the relevant supervisor; assesses completed work and ongoing projects for quality; evaluates employee performance and determines salary adjustments; mediates conflicts between departments.
- Manages production staff and department leaders: responsible for hiring, training, assessing, and terminating employees.
- Provides technical support: stays updated on new products, materials, and technologies by reading industry publications, attending workshops, and visiting supplier sites; offers feedback on problematic materials, supplies, and equipment to production, purchasing, and sales teams; delivers technical information and in-plant training to personnel.
- Prepares and oversees the annual budget: drafts the yearly budget for executive review; analyzes monthly expenses with supervisors; meets with suppliers to obtain product samples; reviews material usage, explores cost-reduction strategies, and seeks to enhance productivity and quality.
- Completes any additional tasks as assigned by the executive leadership.
