Job Summary:

As an Environmental Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of our facilities. Under the supervision of the Environmental Services team, you will be responsible for ensuring that all areas of the hospital meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain floor and other surfaces by operating and maintaining cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and floor polishers, and making adjustments to control and operation techniques to achieve optimal results.
  • Perform general cleaning duties in assigned areas, including offices, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, examination rooms, patient rooms, and special procedure rooms, using approved procedures, materials, and equipment.
  • Inspect assigned areas to ensure compliance with department standards, assure security, and report any deficiencies.
  • Replenish dispensers for essential items, such as soap, hand towels, toilet tissue, and toilet seat covers, in assigned areas.
  • Properly dispose of all refuse generated, including paper, patient foamites, needles, syringe IV tubing, glass, pressurized cans, isolated trash, and other items, through specified procedures.
  • Transport and dispose of soiled linen in designated areas through approved methods.
  • Clean and maintain all receptacles and replace with proper size, type, and color of plastic liners as needed.
  • Move equipment and furniture, remove and hang drapes and cubicle curtains, and clean equipment such as wheelchairs, gurneys, and hamper holders according to established procedures.
  • Perform other routine duties as assigned, such as moving and delivering materials throughout the facility, patient checkout procedures, and sanitizing beds, mattresses, furniture, and units with approved materials through specified procedures.
  • Participate in staff development within the department and in courses required by the medical center.
  • Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, Health Plan members, and the public.
  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente's Service Standards, which include taking initiative, taking responsibility, taking care, and taking pride in your work.
Requirements:
  • Possess good physical stamina and be able to endure long periods of time on your feet.
  • Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting required.
  • Ability to read and follow basic work instructions required.
