Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago seeks a highly skilled Senior Systems Administrator to oversee the implementation and maintenance of its computing technology environment. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of IT professionals to deliver high-quality information technology consulting services to departments within the District.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Manager to ensure adherence to corporate IT standards and best practices.
  • Support the operations of a virtualized environment, including planning, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Provide direct IT consulting services to District management, including technical guidance and support.
  • Coordinate the ongoing training and development of subordinate IT staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills to perform their duties effectively.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management, ensuring the District's technology infrastructure is aligned with its business needs.
  • Modify and debug vendor-supplied equipment, utilities, and packages to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for system software applications, storage management software, and hardware.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and debug software and hardware problems, and perform problem resolution to minimize downtime and ensure system availability.
  • Plan and execute disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster or system failure.
  • Assign, supervise, and review work, ensuring staff compliance with District policies and procedures, including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures.
  • Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion and adherence to project plans.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • At least six years of experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems, with a strong background in IT infrastructure management.
  • Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
  • Full-time paid experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
