Job Title: Part-Time Court Reporter

Job Summary:

Capleo Global LLC is seeking a highly skilled Court Reporter to join our team on a part-time basis. As a Court Reporter, you will be responsible for producing accurate and secure transcripts of legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce complete, accurate, and secure transcripts of client proceedings
  • Provide court reporting services for Board of Appeals hearings
  • Transcribe copies per request
  • Read back portions of events or legal proceedings upon request
  • Review notes taken, including spelling of names and technical terminology
  • Transcribe during scheduled hearings; remarks on objections, exceptions to ruling, court rulings, closing arguments, etc.
  • Furnish a transcript of reported evidence or other proceedings per request

Requirements:

  • Understand the importance of accuracy and security in transcription
  • Have excellent listening and note-taking skills
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to adapt to changing situations and priorities

Working Conditions:

The hearings will be in-person or virtual. Estimated duration of hearings is 4 hours; however, they could run up to 8 hours in a day and could even go into a second day. Client will not supply equipment, equipment must be supplied by the court reporter.

Appeals Process:

There are three (3) steps of the appeal process for preferred service employees. Step I includes an informal discussion between the employee (complainant) and the agency's appointing authority or designee. Step II includes a document review and decision by the Commissioner of the Customer of Human Resources. Step III, the final step of the appeals process, is a hearing before the Board of Appeals.

Board of Appeals:

The Board of Appeals has exclusive jurisdiction to hear matters at Step III brought by either the employee or agency. At Step III, the Board conducts proceedings in accordance with the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act, with certain modifications outlined in Code Annotated. An Administrative Law Judge assists with the hearing but does not make a recommendation for a final order. The Board must render a decision on the complaint within 120 days after the date of filing. An extension, not to extend beyond 140 calendar days, may be granted in extraordinary circumstances with the agreement of both parties.

Client Schedule:

The Client schedule for the rest of the year is attached to this requisition. Not all these dates will be scheduled as some cases are resolved without the need for a hearing.
