About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Store Operations Manager to join our team at Books-A-Million. As an Assistant General Manager, you will play a key role in driving sales growth, improving customer satisfaction, and leading a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Store Manager in achieving sales targets and operational goals.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a collaborative and passionate team to run the store.
  • Provide leadership in running an operationally sound business, balancing operations, delegation, and autonomy.
  • Monitor and control shrink/loss prevention, payroll hours, and schedules.
  • Provide expert knowledge and information on books, music, and pop culture to employees and customers.
  • Collaborate with retail leadership and HQ partners on trends and customer feedback.
  • Run sales reports and use data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Merchandise the store in a compelling way, helping the team buy back in-demand items and developing a store that is a part of the community.
  • In partnership with the Store Manager, develop a high-performing team of associates who are customer-focused.

Requirements:

  • At least six months of retail store management experience, with a proven track record of leading teams to success.
  • Excellent communication, recruiting, operations, and development skills.
  • Passion for geekdom, including books, music, comics, games, or pop culture.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent, with a degree preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing retail environment and handle unexpected challenges.
