Medical Support Specialist

Job Summary
The University Of Houston is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to provide administrative and clinical support to patients as delegated by healthcare providers. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and have excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical procedures and first aid, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
- Obtain vital signs, report patient conditions to providers, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
- Perform laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy and specimen collection, and maintain accurate records in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Room patients, schedule appointments, address phone calls, and collect payments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Monitor and maintain clinic inventory, restock supplies as needed, and ensure the proper functioning of health equipment.
- Administer immunizations, perform EKGs, and participate in quality assurance projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification.
- CPR Certification.
- Knowledge of medical and ICD-10 health insurance billing practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of health and medical regulations and practices (HIPAA).
- Knowledge of budget management.
- Skills in Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and pay close attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Doctor's office or University clinic setting.
- Full-time position with benefits.
- Background check required.
