Position Overview:
We are in search of a seasoned Engineer III or IV, equipped with substantial hands-on expertise in executing electrical and automation initiatives. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Maintenance Manager and operational teams within a steel mill setting. This role encompasses the development and management of capital expense projects (CAPEX) from initiation through to completion. The ideal candidate will contribute to process optimization efforts throughout the facility and possess practical experience in troubleshooting technical challenges related to industrial and manufacturing equipment. A strong grasp of safety policies and standards pertinent to industrial operations is essential. The Engineer will engage in and lead various team-oriented workgroups, demonstrating adaptability to a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Exceptional leadership, communication, data collection, and presentation skills are mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical coordination and support in managing operating and capital expense processes by initiating and executing projects related to capital expense (CAPEX), equipment monitoring, stabilization, and enhancements.
- Conduct detailed engineering tasks in instrumentation, PLC, power distribution, and equipment integration, including electrical design, power distribution design, and automation system design.
- Provide operational technical support, collaborating closely with leaders on improvement initiatives.
- Troubleshoot existing equipment and processes.
- Develop and refine engineering protocols.
- Collect and interpret process samples and data.
- Benchmark practices from other Gerdau Mills to integrate best practices.
- Implement innovative technologies.
- Train and develop technical operations personnel.
- Conduct technical studies to support CAPEX investments.
- Assist in process improvement projects as necessary.
- Contribute to the formulation of Annual Action Plans.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5-8 years of hands-on industrial experience in planning and installing electrical equipment and automation controls.
- Preferred: ISA Certified Automation Professional Certification.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, encompassing planning, budgeting, design, execution, scheduling, procurement, installation, and startup of electrical controls and instrumentation.
- Experience in troubleshooting and optimizing the performance of electrical control systems on production machinery.
- Familiarity with industrial safety and construction methodologies.
- Proficient in Microsoft software applications, including Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and advanced drawing skills with Auto-Cad.
- Understanding of equipment and machine design standards, specifications, and safety design, including ANSI, ASTM, FM, NFPA, and IEC.
- Knowledge of NFPA-70 and NFPA-70E.
- Awareness of OSHA requirements and standards.
- Familiarity with database systems for process control applications.
- Proficient in installation and programming of Rockwell Automation PLC systems.
- Working knowledge of automation communication systems.
- Ability to install, set up, and troubleshoot AC and DC drives and motors.
