Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of team members, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality patient care.
    • Collaborate with the Patient Care Administrator to interview, select, train, and dismiss team staff.
  • Patient Care Services
    • Direct and coordinate all patient care services, ensuring that services are rendered as integrated components of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
    • Review patient information to ensure eligibility and appropriateness criteria are met.
    • Collaborate with the team physician and attending physician regarding palliative care measures for pain and symptom management.
    • Assure complete and accurate data and documentation are available to make recertification decisions.
  • Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance
    • Monitor clinical records and team activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with VITAS policy and regulatory bodies.
    • Develop and implement performance improvement activities to respond to service issues and challenges.
  • Customer Service and Sales/Marketing
    • Assure that problems, grievances, and service failures are addressed with team members, vendors, and other VITAS departments.
    • Analyze customer service issues to identify causes and work with team members to improve performance.
  • Cost Containment
    • Verify and approve admitting IPOC diagnosis, treatments, staffing, and supplies.
    • Monitor utilization of resources to ensure cost-effective delivery of services.
  • Professional Development
    • Attend inservices, educational seminars, and workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
    • Develop and achieve professional growth goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Reliable transportation with appropriate license and insurance coverage.
  • Private telephone in home.
  • Knowledge of primary medical and nursing care, with a working knowledge of oncologic nursing and palliative care.
  • Basic understanding of interpersonal dynamics within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Working knowledge of VITAS information system (Vx) and management reports.
  • Two years of successful supervisory experience in a healthcare organization.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current and valid R.N. License to practice in the state where the VITAS program is located.
