Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of team members, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Collaborate with the Patient Care Administrator to interview, select, train, and dismiss team staff.
- Patient Care Services
- Direct and coordinate all patient care services, ensuring that services are rendered as integrated components of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Review patient information to ensure eligibility and appropriateness criteria are met.
- Collaborate with the team physician and attending physician regarding palliative care measures for pain and symptom management.
- Assure complete and accurate data and documentation are available to make recertification decisions.
- Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor clinical records and team activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with VITAS policy and regulatory bodies.
- Develop and implement performance improvement activities to respond to service issues and challenges.
- Customer Service and Sales/Marketing
- Assure that problems, grievances, and service failures are addressed with team members, vendors, and other VITAS departments.
- Analyze customer service issues to identify causes and work with team members to improve performance.
- Cost Containment
- Verify and approve admitting IPOC diagnosis, treatments, staffing, and supplies.
- Monitor utilization of resources to ensure cost-effective delivery of services.
- Professional Development
- Attend inservices, educational seminars, and workshops to enhance professional growth and development.
- Develop and achieve professional growth goals and objectives.
- Reliable transportation with appropriate license and insurance coverage.
- Private telephone in home.
- Knowledge of primary medical and nursing care, with a working knowledge of oncologic nursing and palliative care.
- Basic understanding of interpersonal dynamics within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Working knowledge of VITAS information system (Vx) and management reports.
- Two years of successful supervisory experience in a healthcare organization.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Current and valid R.N. License to practice in the state where the VITAS program is located.
