POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking two dedicated individuals for the role of School-Based Advisors. These advisors will assist high school students in navigating the intricate process of college and career planning. The advisors will be integral to the PREP Project (Postsecondary Regional Equity on the Peninsula), a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing college enrollment rates among rural populations on the Olympic Peninsula. The positions will involve working with 11th and 12th-grade students across various schools in rural areas, collaborating closely with counselors, support staff, and community partners to facilitate access to higher education opportunities and inspire students to pursue their career goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide students in developing their academic and post-secondary education plans, including exploring college and career options, assisting with financial aid, and preparing college applications.
  • Provide resources through personalized mentorship, group sessions, workshops, classroom presentations, and campus tours to help students make informed decisions about their futures.
  • Advocate for students, ensuring that career and college exploration is customized to meet individual needs, utilizing grade-level curricula.
  • Maintain strong relationships with students to keep them on track with their enrollment plans and provide necessary support in navigating available services, such as housing applications and financial aid acceptance.
  • Facilitate financial aid presentations for students and their families, informing them about options like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and scholarships.
  • Collaborate with high school staff, including teachers, administrators, and counselors, to drive initiatives and develop curricula that align with the mission of the College Success Foundation.
  • Organize and lead large-scale college and career-related events and field trips.
  • Collect and analyze data from events, surveys, and one-on-one meetings to assess program effectiveness and report relevant statistics.
  • Manage the program budget for the academic year, ensuring accurate tracking of monthly expenses.
  • Evaluate spending effectiveness to enhance program services and resources.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with organizations and service providers to ensure the community has access to necessary resources.
  • Deepen understanding of equity and justice principles, applying them actively and serving as a role model for equity initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Education or Social Sciences.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or social work is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in education, youth development, or advising is preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that meet the qualifications for this position will be considered.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to travel consistently to rural schools served by the PREP Project.
  • Familiarity with post-secondary pathways, including universities, community colleges, certificate programs, and military options.
  • Understanding of financial aid programs and application processes.
  • Knowledge of community resources to enhance student engagement.
  • Proficiency in student engagement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to serving diverse populations and promoting equity.

Professional Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid Driver's license and proof of insurance are preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification are preferred.
  • Mental Health First Aid certification is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role operates within a school environment, which may include shared spaces and classrooms.
  • Some schools may require security badges for emergency situations.
  • Frequent travel is necessary, including some evening and weekend events.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
