The Clinical Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the mission and vision of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Presents a professional demeanor and appearance, demonstrating teamwork by assisting colleagues within and across departments.
  • Communicates effectively with others, respects diverse opinions and styles, and acknowledges the assistance and contributions of others.
  • Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections according to age-related standards.
  • Provides appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
  • Identifies the need for patient medical assistance and calls for code as necessary.
  • Reviews and records refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records, reporting areas of concern to maintenance for repair.
  • Performs low-complexity testing accurately and efficiently under the direction of a CLS or supervisor.
  • Follows lab procedures carefully, communicating all outstanding orders and tasks to the next shift.
  • Inputs and retrieves lab results in the Laboratory or Hospital computer system.
  • Processes specimens for transport to reference laboratories, adhering to JCAHO National Patient Safety goals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma.

Preferred:

  • Phlebotomy Certification or training from an accredited School or Institution within six months of hire, or equivalent training as a Phlebotomist.
