Clinical Lab Assistant Job Description

At Northwestern Medicine, we're committed to delivering exceptional patient care and creating a positive work environment. As a Clinical Lab Assistant, you'll play a vital role in our laboratory team, ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Presents a professional demeanor and appearance, demonstrating teamwork and effective communication skills.
  • Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections, adhering to age-related standards and providing appropriate post-phlebotomy patient care.
  • Identifies need for patient medical assistance and calls code as appropriate, reviewing and recording refrigerator temperature and QC/QA records.
  • Performs low-complexity testing accurately and efficiently under the direction of a CLS or supervisor, following lab procedures carefully.
  • Inputs and retrieves lab results in the Laboratory or Hospital computer system, performing and collecting phlebotomy specimens within cost containment efforts.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification or training from an accredited school or institution within six months of hire, or equivalent training as a Phlebotomist, preferred.
