Unit Description:
The Medical Intermediate Critical Care Unit is a cutting-edge 29-bed facility dedicated to delivering patient-centered family care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Our mission is to ensure the highest quality of care for patients requiring an elevated level of attention, without necessitating intensive care.

Care Model:
We emphasize a nursing model that promotes exceptional care delivery, maintaining a Primary Care Nursing approach with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4. Our nurses manage a diverse array of patient needs, including:
  • Neurological conditions
  • Medical complexities
  • Advanced pulmonary care (CPAP, BiPAP, AVAPS)
  • Mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy
  • Surgical and trauma cases
  • Orthopedic and gastrointestinal issues
  • Continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring

Nursing interventions are performed every two hours for tasks such as neuro checks, complex wound care, and vital sign monitoring, ensuring comprehensive patient oversight.

Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse will assess, implement, delegate, plan, and evaluate total nursing care, functioning in alignment with established philosophies. You will provide and direct care for a designated group of patients while ensuring effective communication with other shifts and departments for optimal continuity of care.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Texas RN License or Eligible Compact License
  • Current BLS & ACLS certification from the American Heart Association

  • BSN required or must be obtained within three years of hire
  • PCCN Certification preferred but not mandatory

Orientation and Training:
  • UMC Hospital Orientation & Nursing Orientation
  • ANCC PTAP accredited Nurse Residency Program
  • Unit-specific orientation as determined by the hiring department
  • Individualized orientation length based on experience
  • Galen E-learning Curriculum Modules / Online Nursing Competency
