Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Concussion and Brain Injury Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation and rehabilitation of patients who have experienced concussions/mTBI or brain injuries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the rehabilitation of post-concussion patients by providing focused treatment of ocular-motor, vestibular, and visual-vestibular integration skills.
  • Champion the identification, evaluation, and improvement of cost-effective clinical and service quality for concussion/mTBI patients and a mechanism for tracking patient progress through system evaluating patient satisfaction.
  • Provide internal and external consultation and serve as a resource for education, document development, project management, assessment & treatment of concussion/mTBI patients.
  • Guide interdisciplinary team members in performance improvement and the incorporation of evidence-based practice protocols into the daily operations of the program.
  • The Specialist works with community and professional organizations to further community education and awareness about concussion/mTBI prevention and treatment.
  • Promote educational programs and materials for patients, family/caregivers, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide evaluation services including review of pertinent history information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results. Explain evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporate patient and family in the goals setting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols based upon evaluation findings, the patient's presentation, and the evolving health care environment. Consult with other healthcare professionals as indicated. Recognize and document changes in patient's condition requiring modification of the plan of care and/or the need for medical/rehabilitation consultation.
  • Complete appropriate discharge planning and follow-up care. Accurately and timely document and charge for patient care activities in light of our evolving health care environment, painting a clear picture of the patient's course of care including focused initial evaluation/plan of care that establishes baseline and goals, legible daily encounter notes, interim progress summaries, and discharge evaluation.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participate in meetings and on committees and represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participate in hospital and community-based marketing activities as appropriate to your role.
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of established department goals and objectives. Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Take initiative in pursuing and directive continuing education for professional growth and competency for self and organization. Serve as a clinical instructor to assign students. Assist with orientation and mentoring of new staff, students, volunteers, and technicians.
  • Provide some basic sports and performance vision services, education, and training for those who participate in physically demanding activities, including athletes, military, and first responders.
  • Collaborate with members of the sports neurology and athletics to implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes and developing injury prevention programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current or temporary licensure in the state of West Virginia, or applicable state licensure where services will be performed. Permanent licensure obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Concussion Certified - Carrick Institute or 360 Neuro
  • Certification in Basic Life Support.
  • Five (5) years' experience as an Occupational Therapist.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Experience with concussion/brain injury and visual-vestibular function.
