Residential Support Specialist - Flexible Pool - Family Shelter

The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of a 24-hour program, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for families residing in the facility. This position requires vigilance and readiness to manage phone inquiries, greet guests, and respond to emergencies promptly while upholding professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embrace and promote the mission and values of Catholic Charities and the CCAB Family Shelters, maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
  • Engage respectfully with all visitors, staff, volunteers, service providers, and families in residence.
  • Timely completion of all necessary documentation, incident reports, and daily logs in a clear and professional manner.
  • Ensure adherence to program policies and procedures, reporting any issues to the on-duty colleague, Shelter Manager, or on-call administrator as per protocol.
  • Remain alert and responsive to recognize and address emergency situations and general inquiries swiftly and effectively.
  • Communicate program and client activities during shift changes, ensuring a smooth transfer of responsibilities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living and working environment.
  • Perform assigned cleaning and household tasks as necessary.
  • Comply with the House Rules, Policies, and Procedures approved by the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC).
  • Conduct thorough building checks to ensure safety, addressing any significant cleaning or facility issues, including monitoring outdoor activities that may require police involvement.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents, ensuring that cooking, food storage, dining, and common areas are maintained in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Encourage appropriate parenting practices and address any misconduct in accordance with guidelines from the Department of Children and Families (DCF), EOHLC, and Catholic Charities.
  • Participate in supervision meetings with the Shelter Manager or designated administrative staff.
  • Work effectively in a residential setting, utilizing office equipment as needed.
  • Attend required internal and external meetings and training sessions.
  • Be prepared to cover various shifts, including nights and weekends, as shelters operate 24/7.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 3-4 years of experience in social services or a related field preferred.
  • CPR certification required; participation in training for re-certification is necessary to maintain current credentials.
  • Understanding and maintenance of professional boundaries and confidentiality are essential.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse and occasionally challenging client population.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient typing, writing, and communication skills.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate with clarity, empathy, and patience.
  • Physical capability to respond quickly to situations, both routine and emergency, while maintaining composure.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and bend, with the capacity to evacuate residents during emergencies.
  • A valid driver's license, adequate auto insurance, and a clean driving record for local travel.
