Job Summary
The Laboratory Supervisor will oversee the operations of the Histology/Cytology Laboratory, ensuring the delivery of high-quality laboratory services. This individual will be responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating the work of subordinate staff, as well as communicating with laboratory management to address problems and nonconformances.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the operations of the laboratory, allocating resources efficiently to ensure proper coverage and managing personnel effectively.
- Communicate pertinent information to laboratory management, including problems and nonconformances.
- Provide leadership in laboratory operations, including directing the work of subordinate staff and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Solve problems and demonstrate knowledge of safe and proper practice in the operation and maintenance of technical equipment.
- Ensure timely turn-around time of samples received in the laboratory and ensure that reagents and other laboratory supplies are used within laboratory guidelines.
- Perform tests requiring special skills and assist the laboratory in special circumstances as needed.
- Monitor maintenance of instruments, quality control, and record keeping practices.
Requirements
- Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
- For Appointment to Levels IV and V, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section of the New York Public Health Law.
