Job Summary

CIVITAS RESOURCES, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Tax Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a Tax Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely compliance with state and local tax laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sales and Use Tax
    • Take ownership of the use tax compliance process and ensure timely filing and payment of use tax returns.
    • Prepare tax work-papers supporting the use tax returns and ensure accuracy and precision in all tasks and deliverables.
    • Develop, improve, and streamline processes and procedures for use tax return compliance.
    • Research indirect taxes and monitor sales tax logic to ensure correct rates and tax rules are applied.
    • Prepare and/or work with third-party vendors on sales tax refund claims.
    • Manage all tax-related notices, audits, or inquiries from state tax authorities.
  • Ad Valorem Tax
    • Take ownership of the ad valorem tax compliance process for personal property and ensure timely filing and payment of personal property ad valorem returns.
    • Prepare tax work-papers supporting the Colorado Oil & Gas Declaration (NERF) return for multiple counties.
    • Prepare tax work-papers supporting various personal property tax returns for multiple counties in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas.
    • Manage all tax-related notices, audits, or inquiries from state tax authorities.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Coordinate with external advisors and perform other duties and responsibilities as may be required for special projects.
    • Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance, or an equivalent required.
    • Minimum of 7 years' experience in accounting, closing, reporting, and hands-on accounting systems.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in oil and gas; upstream preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft 360 products (Outlook, Excel, Word) required with advanced skills in Excel in particular.
    • Experience with Power BI preferred.
    • Detailed knowledge of indirect tax law and compliance.
    • Must possess working knowledge of Colorado Oil & Gas Declaration.
    • Certified Public Accountant license or relevant professional certification preferred.
    • BOLO, Excalibur, or other P2 system experience preferred.
  • Travel Requirements
    • Work Location: Work is performed at a CIVITAS RESOURCES, Inc. location Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.
    • Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
