Quality Improvement Nurse

Job Overview:
The Quality Improvement Nurse plays a crucial role in orchestrating a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) initiative that adheres to all federal and state regulatory standards. This program is interdisciplinary, multi-tiered, and encompasses the entire facility, engaging all vital departments in a systematic approach to assess, rectify, and manage processes that influence the quality of care delivered within the skilled nursing environment. The QA Nurse guarantees that the facility's operations meet or surpass established quality benchmarks by applying continuous quality enhancement principles. Additionally, the candidate will provide training for personnel at all levels to enhance regulatory adherence and operational systems, ultimately better serving our Veterans/Members.
The role involves learning, implementing, and overseeing Arizona Management System (AMS) methodologies, employing AMS concepts and tools for effective problem resolution and ongoing process enhancements. Active participation in AMS initiatives such as huddle boards, problem-solving sessions, job breakdown sheets, success tracking, and standardized workflows is expected. A cultural emphasis on Veteran/Member-centered care is integral to the performance of job responsibilities.
As the Quality Improvement Nurse, your responsibilities will include:
Formulating policies and procedures related to quality assurance in accordance with guidelines such as nursing home regulations, facility protocols, evidence-based practices, complaints, audits, observations, and other relevant sources Collecting and evaluating data through audits, interviews, and various activities to ensure compliance across all disciplines, departments, and services with relevant policies, procedures, standards, and regulations Analyzing the monthly CASPER (Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reporting) report and creating Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) based Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) Preparing, disseminating, and interpreting reports, statistical analyses, data summaries, and other documentation for facility staff regarding QAPI activities Assisting supervisors and managers in the development and execution of corrective action strategies Ensuring compliance with state, federal, and VA regulations, aligning them with the facility's operational practices Investigating all instances of non-compliance and collaborating with the Administrator on inquiries regarding allegations of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of residents Coordinating facility readiness for regulatory surveys Monitoring and reporting on the facility's corrective action plans for deficiencies identified by surveying agencies, ensuring adherence to state, federal, and VA regulations Leading and coordinating internal Quality Assurance Committee and Infection Control Committee meetings Identifying educational needs and developing training programs for staff related to quality assurance and compliance education Maintaining documentation of training and compliance with regulations Participating in special projects assigned by the Administrator and assuming staff assignments as necessary Keeping an updated antibiotic listing by unit for daily review with the interdisciplinary team Confirming appropriate and effective antibiotic use based on diagnostic test results and coordinating with nursing administration and physicians as required Tracking and trending infections weekly by individual units and assessing the need for staff training, coordinating with the Director of Nursing for in-service training Conducting daily rounds for infection control surveillance to ensure compliance with individual care plans for residents with infections Compiling monthly summaries utilizing weekly tracking, trending, and facility mapping for the QAPI committee Staying informed of current developments and attending educational opportunities to enhance role effectiveness, such as those provided by CMS and CDCKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
