Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care to patients within patient care services on medical-surgical units at Bayhealth. This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill in accordance with Bayhealth policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and pulse oximetry.
  • Draw blood, administer oral medications, and administer maintenance fluids as ordered by physicians or APCs.
  • Provide general basic nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning, and assisting with use of bedpans, commodes, urinals, or bathrooms.
  • Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures, including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, dressing changes, wound cleansing, and splinting of extremities.
  • Collect and record intake and output.
  • Prepare and administer oral medications as ordered by physicians or APCs.
  • Assist with minor medical/surgical procedures in the practice setting.
  • Transport patients using wheelchairs or stretchers within the hospital and to/from vehicles.
  • Assist patients requiring help with ambulation.
  • Identify the need for patient education and advise patients on their treatment plan.
  • Document treatment records for each patient.
Requirements
  • Certificate Program Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or equivalent credit hours in an RN program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure.
  • Preferred: 2 years LPN experience.
