Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Seasonal Research Assistant in the Inland Fisheries Management Programs department. The successful candidate will assist in the collection and analysis of data related to fish populations and aquatic ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze data on fish populations and aquatic ecosystems
  • Assist in the operation of spawning marshes for Northern Pike
  • Assist in the daily stocking and operations at state trout hatcheries
  • Enter fish community and population data
  • Conduct counts and interviews of people engaged in fishing
  • Assist with general maintenance and upkeep of various structures, buildings, and equipment
Requirements
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • College-level coursework or experience in outdoor education, aquatic biology, ecology, fisheries biology or management, and environmental science
  • Experience working outdoors, on the water, weekends, and late into the night
  • Ability to walk in and along streams/rivers in moderate to swift current
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 or more pounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Connecticut's freshwater fish
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical and carpentry work
Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to meet certain physical requirements, including the ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in a fast-paced environment
