Position: Junior IT Systems Engineer (Ft Belvoir)

***This role requires rotating weekend shifts once a month. Shift hours are 6AM - 6PM Saturday & Sunday ***

Key Responsibilities:

As a Junior IT Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the workflows of an organization’s computer systems, ensuring their upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation. You will collaborate closely with both on-site and remote users to coordinate site visits and upgrades, provide on-site and remote support for troubleshooting, and deliver TIER 2/3 assistance for Unix/Windows workstations and servers, including web servers and network-attached storage devices.

  • Administer desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks, including account monitoring, security, and operating system installation.
  • Support the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems and manage system infrastructure.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client/server/storage/network devices.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution.
  • Facilitate escalation and communication of status to management and internal stakeholders.
  • Install and configure operating systems and application software.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues involving applications, operating systems, and hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain network components, implementing enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Perform software installations and upgrades for Unix/Windows operating systems and maintain compliance with established policies.
  • Develop and follow procedures for managing linked databases, ensuring security and data integrity.
  • Conduct routine and emergency maintenance of data center equipment.
  • Coordinate scheduled preventive maintenance with affected users.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of backup and recovery plans.
  • Ensure systems adhere to security guidelines using tools such as Retina and HBSS.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, and other standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Verify system availability using existing enterprise tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must obtain Security+ certification or DoD 8570 Level II equivalent within 90 days of hire.
  • TS/SCI Clearance required with eligibility for CI Poly.
  • Experience in UNIX, Windows, and/or Storage administration.
  • Familiarity with trouble reporting and tracking systems.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours calls and provide on-call support.
  • Willingness to travel 0-20% to local sites as needed.
  • Capability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/move/carry equipment as necessary (max 40 pounds).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the imagery intelligence domain.
  • Proficiency in creating and modifying scripts across Windows, Linux, and Solaris systems.
  • Knowledge of the organization’s processes and production systems.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member and independently.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Windows Server, Red Hat, IRIX, Solaris, Sybase, Informix, SQL, and Imagery Production Chain.
  • General knowledge of database and network administration.
