Position Overview: Loan Specialist

The Loan Specialist plays a vital role within the Lending Team, focusing on originating, underwriting, servicing, and managing loans and loan applications. This position collaborates closely with the Loan Officer, Credit Analyst, and members to ensure our products and services are delivered efficiently and positively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the financial performance of the Association by being an integral part of the lending team in delivering products and services to applicants and members.
  2. Conduct all pre-closing due diligence related to customers, including public records searches, credit report acquisition, and collateral assessments.
  3. Ensure accurate entry of requests into the origination system, complete with all necessary documentation before submission to the appropriate underwriting path.
  4. Execute scorecard underwriting and prepare the credit package, including the credit memo for eligible loans.
  5. Identify and document any policy exceptions.
  6. Approve scorecard loans within delegated authorities.
  7. Complete post-approval/pre-closing compliance checks to ensure loans meet approval requirements.
  8. Monitor requests through underwriting and approval to ensure timely decision-making.
  9. Create necessary documentation such as term sheets, proposal letters, and notices of decision.
  10. Prepare and submit applications for guarantees and support loan reporting requirements.
  11. Review loan closing documents for accuracy.
  12. Assist in gathering financial data, including year-end data.
  13. Monitor loan pricing related to note modification opportunities.
  14. Support the lending team with CRM maintenance and loan portfolio management.
  15. Build strong customer relationships through value-added service and knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Two-year degree in Business or Agricultural Business; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience supporting a lending team.
  • Dependable and reliable with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and demonstrated computer skills.
  • Knowledge of agriculture is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel for training and meetings as necessary.
