Job Title: School Nurse Substitute

Join our team of dedicated professionals as a School Nurse Substitute in Birmingham City Schools. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide essential health services to students within the school system.

Job Summary:

As a School Nurse Substitute, you will be responsible for providing direct student/patient care, administering medication, and performing invasive procedures. You will also be responsible for health appraisals, referrals, and maintaining student health records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct student/patient care, including first aid, administering medication, and performing invasive procedures.
  • Conduct health appraisals and make necessary referrals in areas such as vision, hearing, dental, physical disability, and scoliosis.
  • Administer medication according to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Check students for head lice and instruct parents in correct treatment.
  • Obtain and maintain accurate student health history records.
  • Develop and review health care plans and emergency care plans for students.
  • Monitor equipment, supplies, and materials for the school health clinic.
  • Maintain security of school health supplies and materials.
  • Prepare health reports for supervisors, the Board of Education, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Provide resources and training to school personnel on health and safety issues.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a current Alabama License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a current CPR certification. Clinical nursing experience with school-age children is highly desirable.

Please note that this is a substitute position, and you will be required to work on an as-needed basis.
