The Hetrick-Martin Institute is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team at Harvey Milk High School. As a key member of our Youth Services Department, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families, promoting positive youth development and addressing the unique needs of LGBTQ+ youth.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive counseling services to students, including individual, group, and family therapy.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, ensuring a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and community agencies to support student learning and well-being.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments, identifying areas of strength and need for students and their families.
- Provide crisis intervention, peer mediation, and conflict-resolution services to promote a safe and supportive school environment.
- Participate in professional development trainings, staying up-to-date on best practices in mental health counseling and LGBTQ+ youth services.
- Attend counseling team meetings, individual and clinical supervision groups, and other team meetings as part of our comprehensive program support team.
- Current LMSW license with opportunity to obtain LCSW and SIFI Counseling degrees.
- Experience working with at-risk adolescent and LGBTQ+ populations, with a strong understanding of trauma-informed care and liberation healing.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Salesforce, with familiarity with spreadsheet/database software.
- Work at 2 Astor Place, NYC (in-person).
- Standard Hours are 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, M-F with an hour lunch break; occasional schedule changes for outreach work and events.
