Mental Health Counselor, Harvey Milk High School

The Hetrick-Martin Institute is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team at Harvey Milk High School. As a key member of our Youth Services Department, you will provide individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families, as well as collaborate with teachers and other support staff to implement strategies that support student learning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families
- Complete psychosocial assessments to determine appropriate educational and socio-emotional services and supports
- Develop and implement treatment plans and provide case coordination of clients
- Provide crisis intervention, peer mediation, and conflict-resolution services
- Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to implement strategies that support student learning
- Identify academic and behavioral challenges and develop strategies to address them
- Serve as a liaison between HMHS and students' families/guardians to promote collaborative educational planning
- Support students with post-secondary educational planning and college selection and application
- Maintain clinical records and submit documents for statistical reporting
- Conduct classroom observations and implement interventions to support student learning
- Participate in professional development trainings and attend counseling team meetings and individual supervision
- Current LMSW license with opportunity to obtain LCSW and SIFI Counseling degrees
- Experience working with at-risk adolescent and LGBTQ populations
- Strong familiarity with the NYC DOE, 100ACS services, and surrounding social service agencies
- At least two years experience working with diverse youth populations in an urban setting
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, liberation healing, and positive youth development
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and strong decision-making skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and familiarity with Salesforce and Microsoft Teams
