Position Overview

POSITION TITLE: Social Studies Educator and Assistant Basketball Coach for 9th Grade

FLSA: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet state licensure requirements

REPORTS TO: Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist as the 9th Grade Boys Basketball coach.
  • Instruct students in social studies, including history, geography, American government, and political science, utilizing the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education along with other suitable learning activities.
  • Design a comprehensive social studies program that incorporates factual information, current events, discussions, and other activities aimed at fostering skills, attitudes, and informed decision-making among students.
  • Assess each student's progress in knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the subject matter being taught.
  • Enhance understanding of the American governmental and economic systems, as well as the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
  • Encourage students to recognize and exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens, while developing an understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political influences on global regions.
  • Promote the development of informed opinions based on factual studies of political and economic systems.
  • Teach students about citizenship and fundamental subject matter as mandated by state law and district regulations.
  • Maintain professional growth through in-service education and self-directed learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with administrators to establish evaluation methods in line with district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
  • Identify student needs and work collaboratively with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.
  • Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities throughout the workday.
  • Engage in curriculum development and other educational programs.
  • Participate in faculty committees and support student activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
