Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Brown University Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to work well under pressure will make you an asset to our team.

Responsibilities:

Assist in preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and properly stored.
Assist nursing personnel and orderlies in lifting and positioning patients for surgical procedures.
Scrubs on all types of surgical procedures and passes in instruments, sutures, and sponges; assists in holding retractor and suctioning patients and anticipates needs of the physician.
Maintain strict aseptic techniques in the operating room area, reporting and correcting any breaks in such techniques.
Clean surgical instruments and equipment after surgical procedures by operating sterilization equipment (i.e. autoclaves and ultrasonic) and wrapping and storing such equipment and instruments after they are cleaned.
Remove soiled linen and supplies from the operating room after surgical procedures and assist in the general cleaning of the area.
Obtain clean linen and supplies and set up room for next procedure.
Obtain special equipment and supplies from the appropriate storage areas.
Remove unused supplies from the surgery cart and store them in the appropriate area for use.
Stock surgical supplies in the operating rooms and storage areas and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED is required.
Completion of at least one of the following options is required:
Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or
Graduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program or
Current certification as a CST or
Current NCCT-TC (tech in surgery) certification (for applicants with past military experience only; military experience as a surgical technologist will be strongly considered) or
3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologist
Current BLS Certification is required upon hire.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Required to work in a sterile environment and regularly exposed to cuts and punctures from surgical instruments and equipment, burns from autoclaves, anesthesia gases, as well as odors and communicable diseases from patients.
Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning of patients and to stand for extended periods of time during surgical procedures.
