Position Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned R&D Chef to spearhead our innovation initiatives in response to a growing array of sales and development prospects. The ideal candidate will possess a business-oriented mindset and will oversee a small team, ensuring comprehensive support across sales, development, quality assurance, and production processes, including the introduction of new products.

The successful applicant will have 5-8+ years of culinary expertise within restaurant or corporate food service settings, demonstrating leadership capabilities or readiness to manage a team. This role requires the ability to translate culinary experience into a manufacturing context. We are open to training and developing promising talent, as well as considering seasoned professionals.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative, and customer-centric individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality products and exceptional service to both internal teams and external clients. The candidate should thrive in a small company environment where responsibilities are diverse and opportunities to influence outcomes are readily available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovation: Lead and facilitate sales and innovation efforts, including creating samples for both bench-top and production settings; develop strategies for assessing ingredient technologies and pioneering new product concepts.
  • Recipe Development: Design and innovate scalable, cost-effective recipes that align with market trends and meet customer and company specifications.
  • Enhancement: Improve the nutritional value, cost efficiency, and sensory characteristics of existing recipes; research and propose sustainable, high-quality ingredient sourcing while considering supply chain efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of recipes, tests, and procedures, including comprehensive documentation of test kitchen sessions and recipe development within the company's Flavor Studio system.
  • Collaboration: Assist the sales team with product development inquiries, customer presentations, and product information requests; prepare and deliver technical presentations for customer engagements; foster and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Research: Stay informed about current product and ingredient trends, standards, attributes, and safety protocols.
  • Leadership: Guide and supervise a small, enthusiastic team; fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws; manage the daily operations of the test kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of culinary experience in a restaurant or food service organization.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a corporate food service organization.
  • Background in manufacturing or food processing, particularly with proteins.
  • Knowledge of food safety principles, GMPs, and HACCP.
  • Formal education in Culinary Arts is advantageous.
  • Certifications such as Certified Food Scientist (CFS), Research Chef (CRC), or Culinary Scientist (CCS) are a plus.
  • Experience or education in Food and/or Animal Science is beneficial.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is a plus.
