Aquatic Program Supervisor

Position Overview:
The Aquatic Program Supervisor will play a crucial role in the planning, oversight, and execution of activities within the Aquatic Department. This position may also involve lifeguarding duties and instructional responsibilities. Participation in all required training sessions is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the aquatic facility, ensuring adherence to programming schedules as directed by the Aquatics Manager or the on-duty Coordinator.
- Support swim instructors and team coaches during swim sessions and practices, fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and patrons.
- Enforce facility rules with patience and respect to maintain a secure atmosphere for members, visitors, and staff. Alert swimmers about hazardous areas and behaviors.
- Ensure cleanliness and order in all aquatic zones, both on deck and in the water.
- Assist in the training and development of TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications, which includes their ability to mentor and instruct fellow lifeguards and TSA personnel.
- Quickly assess situations and implement effective responses; maintain vigilant observation of assigned areas to detect potential hazards.
- Guide aquatic staff in proper communication protocols and emergency procedures.
- Conduct routine skill assessments of lifeguard personnel to ensure readiness and effective team responses.
- Assist the manager in facilitating in-service training sessions as needed.
- Perform rescues for swimmers in distress.
- Administer first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR as required.
- Maintain and review assigned records and reports, ensuring all incident documentation is accurately completed and submitted to the Aquatic Manager.
- Supervise staff in the cleaning and maintenance of pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other designated spaces, while also performing cleaning tasks as necessary.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to the community, ensuring all clients and members receive prompt and courteous assistance.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor and approach to problem-solving.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and aquatic standards during all shift assignments.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and customers, both in person and via phone, especially in challenging situations.
- Report liability incidents promptly and in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain a safe working environment and report any facility-related issues to the Aquatic Manager.
- Adhere to the dress code as established by the Aquatics Manager, maintaining a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
- Complete other aquatic-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Preferred age of 18 years or older.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- Availability to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in public interaction.
- Ability to engage positively and energetically with staff, clients, and customers; self-motivated and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a lifeguard and aquatic instructor.
- Extensive background as a swim instructor is highly desirable.
- One year of experience as a head lifeguard or equivalent is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain current certifications in the following areas:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification within nine months of hire.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within nine months of hire.
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification, including AED.
- American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification.
- American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens certification within 90 days of hire.
- CPO certification is highly desirable.
- Emergency Response or advanced first aid training is preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
- Compliance with health and safety regulations as defined by relevant authorities.
- Alignment with the educational philosophy and child development principles of the organization.
- Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and staff in leadership, counseling, and educational roles.
Physical Requirements:
- Must maintain a minimum fitness level to perform the following:
- Complete a 300-yard swim in under 15 minutes.
- Tread water for 2 minutes without using hands.
- Position requires proficient swimming skills and endurance, including the ability to apply rescue and first-aid techniques effectively. Must be capable of extracting victims from the pool to the deck and lifting at least 40 lbs. The role involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, jogging, pulling, pushing, balancing, reaching, and using hands and fingers.
- Must be in good physical and mental health to meet the demands of all aquatic responsibilities.
