Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at the Michigan Institute of Urology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our medical team in a fast-paced office environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare procedure rooms for local procedures by setting up instrumentation, checking case supplies, and opening sterile instruments/supplies in an aseptic technique.
  • Assist physicians during local procedures, utilizing aseptic technique and demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions, PPE, and aseptic technique.
  • Accurately document procedures on procedure-specific memos and accurately use and document on the Electronic Health Record.
  • Perform and record patient vital signs, administer injections/instillations on the order of the physician, and mix medications.
  • Insert/remove urinary catheters, clean and complete high-level disinfection of cystoscopes, and participate in the decontamination and processing of procedure instrumentation.
  • Operate the autoclave, including cleaning, sterilization parameters, and maintenance of autoclave records, and wrap and sterilize instruments and related supplies.
  • Assist in room clean-up, remove soiled instrumentation, supplies, and trash from the procedure room, and wipe down furniture/equipment.
  • Clean lab areas, including wiping down surfaces, emptying garbage cans, and cleaning restrooms as needed.
  • Restock supply cupboards, labs, and rooms as needed, and transport laboratory specimens, x-ray films, instruments, and/or supplies as needed/requested.
  • Collaborate with orientation of new personnel in the office, report to the supervisor when the office schedule is finished, and assist office personnel in other areas.
  • Act as the patient advocate, notify physician/supervisor of observed condition or change in condition of the patient, and maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Maintain accountability for identifying self-deficits and for updating knowledge and skills required to perform responsibilities.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED; Medical Assistant diploma required.
  • Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
  • 1 year of medical assistant office experience demonstrating competency is preferred.
