The selected Fire Protection Engineer will serve as the primary liaison between our organization and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, well-organized, design-oriented, and focused on customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the design of fire protection projects from initial programming through to post-occupancy evaluations.
  • Examine proposal documents for precision and provide necessary feedback or recommendations.
  • Analyze Architectural, Electrical, and Mechanical floor plans in accordance with various NFPA and IBC Codes and Standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), particularly regarding Means of Egress Systems and Components, ensuring all designs comply with these standards.
  • Evaluate vendor shop drawings and equipment submissions for sprinkler and fire alarm systems to ensure adherence to NFPA 13 and NFPA 72.
  • Review hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems, hydrant flow test data, and fire pump performance curves.
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify deficiencies related to Means of Egress, Sprinkler Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Emergency Lighting, Electrical Arrangements, Fire Rated Partitions, and Storage Arrangements.
  • Participate in Surveys and provide recommendations regarding the acceptability of buildings concerning Life Safety code requirements.
  • Engage in testing Fire and Life Safety Systems, including sprinklers, fire alarms, emergency lighting, and elevator recall during Substantial Completion Inspections.
  • Provide on-site field survey measurements and verification.
  • Conduct design reviews and submit feedback in the required format.
Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering

• Professional engineering experience post-graduation

• Proven experience as a Fire Protection Engineer

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Revit/Revit MEP

• Top Secret Security Clearance

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office setting with a noise level that is generally low to moderate. The role involves routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

The work is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office role, and requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands for handling objects, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. The workload may necessitate prolonged periods of sitting. The incumbent must be capable of reading, performing basic math calculations, and managing moderate stress levels.

Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 lbs may be required. Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
