The Senior Vice President of Risk Assessment plays a crucial role in ensuring that all loans are meticulously evaluated for risk, adhering to company policies, regulatory standards, and guidelines set by investors and agencies. This position involves the development and refinement of mortgage guidelines, assessing loan values, and evaluating insurance applications for potential risk exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of underwriters to guarantee thorough reviews and analyses of mortgage loan files, including assessments of income, assets, credit, and other collateral.
  • Formulate and execute underwriting strategies to enhance the efficiency of loan decision processes.
  • Direct the underwriting operations, ensuring that standards are upheld to safeguard company assets.
  • Timely communicate loan decisions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on trends within the mortgage sector to proactively identify emerging opportunities and market shifts.
  • Regularly review communications related to products and internal processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective and consistent communication across departments.
  • Work closely with compliance, risk management, and quality control teams to align risk profiles and objectives.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure all loans meet regulatory and investor standards.
  • Provide training to fellow underwriters regarding job functions, expectations, and responsibilities, and prepare performance reports for executive review.
  • Conduct additional compliance reviews as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in managing mortgage underwriting.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of RESPA and MDIA regulations.
  • Familiarity with FNMA/FHLM and FHA/VA programs.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Non-QM/DSCR programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS).
  • Strong technical and leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
