Description:

The Emergency Department Technician is expected to collaborate effectively with the Emergency Department Registered Nurse and medical provider to deliver optimal patient care. This role involves providing essential direct and indirect care autonomously, along with additional responsibilities as assigned by the Registered Nurse or Provider.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Connect and monitor patients using vital signs equipment.
  2. Respond promptly to patient call lights and address their needs or communicate with the RN or provider.
  3. Assist patients with daily living activities such as toileting, bathing, dressing, and eating under the guidance of nursing staff.
  4. Conduct glucometer tests following successful competency assessment.
  5. Track and document patients' fluid and nutritional intake as well as urinary output, including foley catheter output.
  6. Support patient transfers, specimen collection, decontamination, application of restraints, pelvic examinations, spinal immobilization, and urinary catheter insertion.
  7. Perform visual acuity assessments.
  8. Operate and apply LUCAS devices.
Delegated Tasks:
  1. Assist with wound dressing and pressure dressing.
  2. Prepare and irrigate wounds.
  3. Administer oxygen as needed.
  4. Support splinting procedures.
  5. Conduct one-on-one observation and documentation for mental health patients.
  6. Implement airway ventilation and CPR interventions in accordance with BLS standards.
  7. Manage helipad operations.
  8. Coordinate follow-up appointments as instructed.
  9. Remove IV catheters.
  10. Perform EKGs and provide results to the ordering provider or RN promptly.
Unit Maintenance:
  1. Assist in cleaning and stocking patient rooms.
  2. Help organize deliveries from supply services.
  3. Contribute to the cleanliness of the nursing station during shift changes.
  4. Participate in shift checks.
  5. Complete monthly departmental tasks such as checking expiration dates and deep cleaning patient rooms.
  6. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  7. Restock linens for the department.
Clerical Duties:
  1. Perform office tasks including organizing, filing, typing, and faxing.
  2. Answer and direct phone calls to the unit.
  3. Manage fax communications.
  4. Assist patients, families, and providers with phone inquiries as needed.
  5. Arrange patient transport, including contacting ambulance or air transport services.
  6. Make copies and manage office supply orders.
  7. Support the use of interpreter technology as required.
Collaboration:
  1. Maintain constant communication with the provider and RN regarding patient care plans.
  2. Assist in other departments as assigned and provide support to colleagues to meet patient care needs.
  3. Seek opportunities to assist in various departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Relationship Management:
  1. Treat patients and all individuals with courtesy and respect.
  2. Strive to be welcoming and helpful to all customers.
  3. Maintain a record free of patient, family, or staff dissatisfaction comments.
  4. Effectively manage relationships with colleagues.
  5. Address negative attitudes and resolve conflicts appropriately.
  6. Adhere to patient rights and confidentiality standards.
  7. Follow the organization's Standards of Behavior.
  8. Attend the required percentage of departmental meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification is preferred.
  3. Preferred experience includes one year of recent involvement with ambulance services, hospitals, or Emergency Departments.
  4. BLS Certification is required.
Summary:

This position is part-time, working 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
