Job Overview: The primary objective of this role is to support TRIO participants in enhancing their academic abilities, leadership skills, and career trajectories. The position will also provide administrative assistance as necessary to the TRIO Student Support Services Program (including database management, confidential documentation, and support for evaluation and reporting). Key responsibilities include delivering direct TRIO SSS services to participants, aiding in Program workshops, cultural enrichment initiatives, and career exploration activities.
Core Responsibilities:
35% Maintain consistent communication with a designated case load of TRIO SSS students, offering support in each of the five mandated services outlined by the U.S. Department of Education.
20% Provide guidance and advisement to TRIO SSS students regarding leadership development and career awareness & growth.
20% Assist Project staff with administrative tasks as needed.
10% Contribute to the planning and execution of TRIO SSS sponsored workshops.
5% Prepare and submit documentation for monthly and annual reporting.
5% Assist the TRIO Director with the selection and intake of Program participants.
5% Manage databases and files (both electronic and physical).

Key Performance Indicators:
Timeliness in response and follow-up with TRIO participants.
Retention and graduation rates of TRIO participants each semester.
Achievement of the objectives set forth by the TRIO SSS Program as sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Leadership, Counseling, Communications, or a related field.
A minimum of two years of experience in a higher education environment is required, preferably in TRIO or similar outreach programs, including familiarity with financial aid, scholarships, transfer programs, and academic advising, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and an understanding of diverse populations.
Part-time work experience is considered at 50% of full-time experience.

Impact of Role: This position operates under the objectives of the federal TRIO SSS grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The ability to serve the target population of first-generation, low-income, and disabled students is crucial for enhancing retention and graduation rates, which is essential for the success of the TRIO SSS Program. Failure to meet grant objectives may result in funding loss, impacting multiple departments within the college.
Accuracy Responsibility: Maintaining precise student information for the Annual Performance Report submitted to the U.S. Department of Education requires meticulous attention to detail. Any inaccuracies could adversely affect future funding for the TRIO SSS Program. Miscommunication with students and TRIO SSS staff may lead to misunderstandings and other workplace errors.
Financial Responsibilities: Efficient use of office resources and time management is essential for the Program's effective operation, minimizing costs and resource waste.
Budgetary Duties: This position involves purchasing supplies with prior approval from the Project Director. Responsibilities include completing requisitions, processing invoices, and ensuring documentation of all purchases is maintained in accordance with U.S. Department of Education and Pellissippi State Community College guidelines. The position does not hold signing authority.
Decision-Making Authority: The role may involve independent decision-making for issues arising within the scope of responsibilities. For matters outside this scope, referrals will be made to the TRIO Director.
Nature of Interactions: The purpose of interactions, both internally and externally, is to provide and receive information, foster understanding, and negotiate and resolve conflicts. Contacts include faculty and staff at PSCC, non-profit organizations that may assist TRIO participants, four-year post-secondary institutions, and other TRIO professionals.
Physical Requirements: Primarily desk work with some walking and standing. May involve lifting, climbing, standing, kneeling, pushing, stooping, reaching, grasping, and manual dexterity. Travel to other campuses may be required, as well as setting up display tables at campus and community events.
Health Risks: Exposure to germs and bacteria that may lead to colds, flu, COVID-19, and other illnesses is a significant concern in this position.
