KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily Operations: Engage in the execution of routine tasks and responsibilities.
- Volunteer Coordination: Lead and supervise volunteers as needed.
- Work Environment: Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
- Field Operations:
- Navigate between research plots, production fields, and educational areas.
- Keep detailed logs for organic certification.
- Perform tillage, planting, and manage inputs.
- Operate tractors and associated implements, manage irrigation, transplanting, seeding, cultivating, hand weeding, spraying, harvesting, and data collection.
- Landscaping Duties:
- Assist in the design and implementation of pollinator habitats and riparian zones.
- Maintain comprehensive input and planting records.
- Ensure the aesthetic appeal of the campus grounds.
- Prepare sites for various events, including weddings and tours.
- Conduct transplanting, hand weeding, watering, seeding, dead-heading, harvesting, spraying, pruning, trellising, mowing, and trimming tasks.
- Livestock Management:
- Support research technicians in executing research projects.
- Assist in the maintenance of hog pastures.
- Maintain animal and chore logs, and assist with data entry.
- Perform feeding, watering, and general care of livestock.
- Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of barns and animal housing.
- Work independently and contribute to strategic decisions regarding livestock production.
- Assist with data preparation for research publications.
- Support collaborators in sample collection and processing.
- Greenhouse Management:
- Assist specialists in implementing production plans for greenhouse structures.
- Sales and Distribution:
- Support the Food Production Specialist in preparing and distributing farm products.
- Event Preparation:
- Assist in setting up event locations.
- Work with landscaping specialists to ensure an appealing environment for events.
- Support facilities management in arranging equipment and seating.
- Participate in webinars and interviews as requested.
- Orchard and Perennial Care:
- Assist in the maintenance of apple orchards, including planting, pruning, and harvesting.
- Provide support for orchard work at associated properties.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in agricultural settings preferred.
- Compassionate and caring approach towards animals.
- Ability to maintain organized activity logs.
- Exhibit a positive, motivated, and professional demeanor.
- Flexible availability to accommodate the unpredictable nature of farm work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Capable of lifting and carrying over 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
- Open to providing input and exploring new tasks and ideas.
