We operate client-centered savings and financial coaching programs, deliver training and technical assistance to other practitioners, and shape policy solutions that dismantle barriers to asset building.

About the Job

The Policy Analyst will support the Director of Policy to achieve Compass's policy goals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Outreach activities to policymakers, including scheduling meetings and following up with Congressional offices
  • Policy research and analysis, including tracking legislation and regulations of interest to Compass
  • Planning and implementing lobby days, both virtually and in-person
  • External engagement work with coalition partners, including drafting and distributing sign-on letters and action alerts
  • Communications, including managing written products and conducting outreach and communications activities
  • Meetings and events, including managing logistics for policy meetings and events
  • Operations, including maintaining digital files and documentation of meetings

This is a full-time, exempt position based in the Washington, DC area, with some travel required to the main offices in Boston, MA and Philadelphia, PA.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience, including 2 years in policymaking, legislative analysis, advocacy, or similar fields
  • Background or familiarity with the policymaking, regulatory, and federal government processes
  • Familiarity with issue advocacy campaigns
  • Experience in advocacy, consensus-building, coalition-building, and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other staff and other organizations
  • Ability to consistently produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability and willingness to complete administrative tasks
  • Excellent writing, editing, and general communications skills
  • Commitment to continued learning
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse organization and with diverse stakeholders and partners

Preferred:

  • Lived experience of the issues that Compass is working to address
  • Experience working in issue areas such as federal housing assistance in general and the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program in particular
  • Experience working with Congressional offices
