Overview: The Patient Services Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that patients receive exceptional care and support at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY). Core Responsibilities:

  • Welcome patients and visitors with a friendly demeanor, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Efficiently manage phone communications, including answering calls, screening inquiries, and relaying messages as necessary.
  • Address patient inquiries and concerns with confidentiality and compassion.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace, adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
  • Schedule, confirm, and adjust patient appointments promptly and efficiently.
  • Verify and input patient demographic and insurance details into the Electronic Practice Management System (EPM) for accurate billing.
  • Ensure necessary consents are obtained and documented in EPM.
  • Assess patient eligibility for various programs, including Medicaid and Family Planning benefits.
  • Assist patients in completing insurance forms and gathering required documentation.
  • Process payments and inform patients of any outstanding financial obligations.
  • Provide emergency contraceptives and other supplies to walk-in patients in accordance with established policies.
  • Review and enter client visit records into EPM, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in compliance and quality initiatives, contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in healthcare or medical billing is preferred; customer service experience is also valuable.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle sensitive client information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Capacity to work independently and adapt to a flexible schedule.
  • Proficiency in a second language, such as Spanish, Nepali, Arabic, or Swahili, is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required.

Compensation and Benefits:

PPCWNY offers competitive pay ranging from $16.50 to $19.18 per hour, determined by experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes generous Paid Time Off, health insurance options, a 401(k) plan with matching contributions, and more.
