The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for conducting radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations and related techniques. This role involves administering x-radiation to generate diagnostic images for physician analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm, and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Confirms patient clinical history with the procedure, ensuring documentation is accessible to the radiologist and provider.
  • Prepares and positions patients for procedures, offering guidance to achieve optimal results and alleviate anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment and accessories to effectively perform procedures.
  • Positions patients to accurately demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, considering patient comfort and ability.
  • Immobilizes patients as necessary for examinations.
  • Takes responsibility for addressing the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Initiates basic life support when required.
  • Determines radiographic techniques and exposure parameters.
  • Applies radiation protection principles to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Processes images and reviews them for proper identification and quality assurance.
  • Utilizes radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all necessary records and reports, and submits images for physician review.
  • Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other staff.
  • Adheres to universal protocols, standard precautions, and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Implements patient safety principles during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Operates mobile radiologic equipment in various settings.
  • Assists radiologists during fluoroscopic and specialized x-ray examinations.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT Radiography registration required.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois.
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; effective communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret data.
  • Reasoning Ability: Capability to apply common sense in executing instructions and solving problems.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with manufacturing software, order processing systems, and word processing.

Physical Demands:
This role requires regular walking, use of hands, reaching, climbing, and lifting patients and equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Supervision:
Some independent judgment is required, with clinical supervision provided for radiography students and aides.
