Description

Grays Harbor College is seeking a dynamic and committed full-time faculty member to deliver mathematics instruction at both pre-college and college levels to individuals in a correctional setting. The primary teaching responsibilities may encompass a range of courses including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Math in Society, Introduction to Statistics, and Pre-Calculus. Additional duties will involve academic advising, assessment of student outcomes, participation in committees, and other assigned responsibilities. The ideal candidate will actively engage in departmental, college, and community activities, while maintaining regular communication with main-campus mathematics faculty. We aim to attract individuals who possess a genuine enthusiasm for teaching mathematics, can convey complex concepts in an accessible manner, and are dedicated to personal and departmental growth.

The Department of Corrections collaborates with Grays Harbor College to provide educational opportunities for offenders. This role is situated within the Stafford Creek Corrections Center. While safety measures are in place, the position requires working in a correctional facility where potential risks may arise. Candidates must successfully pass a background check and be authorized to work within a prison environment. Continuous access to the facility is essential for employment.

This is a full-time, tenure-track role. The salary placement for the 214 Day Contract will be based on educational qualifications and experience at the time of hiring. Initial faculty placement shall not exceed five years of service. For salary details, please refer to the appropriate resources.

Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College are part of a bargaining unit represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. The faculty union and the college maintain a bargaining unit agreement that is accessible on the college's website.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-college and college-level mathematics courses.
  • Create an engaging classroom environment that caters to diverse student needs and employs effective instructional strategies.
  • Ensure alignment between courses offered at Stafford Creek and those available on the main campus.
  • Collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
  • Maintain accurate student records as mandated by the college and relevant agencies.
  • Serve as a resource for adjunct faculty members.
  • Guide students in their educational pathways and academic goals.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Participate in college committees as required.
Working Conditions:
  • Attendance at a six-week Department of Corrections CORE training and all annual required training is mandatory.
  • Work hours may vary Monday through Friday and could include some evening shifts.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
