Job Title: Special Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at Aberdeen School District. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, providing individualized attention, and promoting a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in implementing instructional and non-instructional programs for students with special needs.
  • Monitor student progress, share observations with teachers and parents, and assist with data collection.
  • Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Prepare instructional materials, assemble worksheets, and correct assignments.
  • Assist with adaptive/medical equipment, such as toileting, diapering, and dressing, as needed.
  • Administer district, state, and national tests, and maintain diagnostic and test data.
  • Provide basic first aid care to ill and injured students.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating positive behavior and promoting a positive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AA degree, 72 college credits, or pass a skills test required.
  • Post-high school training in child development and related training desired.
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs preferred.
Working Conditions:

The Special Education Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push items of 50 pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or in a wheelchair. The employee is responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
