Job Summary:

This position is designed to provide supervisory leadership to staff level employees, coordinating such activities with the department's Manager. The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion in performing the duties listed below.

Responsibilities:
  • Participates in performance appraisal of staff on applicable shift.
  • Participates in hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
  • Prepares documentation for possible disciplinary actions and makes recommendations for such action to the Manager.
  • Provides recommendations to the Manager for commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate forms of recognition for outstanding performance of employees on applicable shift.
  • Makes work assignments and directs work activities. Coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
  • Projects staffing needs for next two shifts, coordinating adjustments in staffing level as needed.
  • Serves as clinical resource for all staff.
  • Checks the emergency crash cart or ascertains that the cart has been checked.
  • Provides shift report to next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
  • Participates in making work schedules.
  • Completes all charge nurse duties as specified in nursing policy.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Valid RN license in the State of Tennessee. CPR required.
  • Must possess at least one to three (1-3) years of professional experience.
About the Department:

The Nephrology Unit (3 West) at Fort Sanders Regional is a 17-bed telemetry unit serving a wide variety of medical patients. Our primary population consists of patients with acute or chronic renal failure, diabetes and cardiac issues. We focus on patients who have hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, urinary infections, and other urological conditions.

We specialize in the treatment of the kidney patient including those who are newly diagnosed with a kidney issue, as well as individuals who are long term dialysis patients.

As an RN on our nephrology unit, you will perform a variety of tasks. Nurses on 3 West are specially trained in performing peritoneal dialysis and managing select cardiac drips. Our goal is to provide excellent patient-centered care and prepare our patients and their families for care after discharge.

Great basic nursing skills such as lines, drains, and tubing practices are used on this unit every day as well as cutting edge dialysis therapies.

In addition to having excellent critical thinking skills, our ideal candidate will also possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
