About the Role

OpenAI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Trusted Computing and Cryptography efforts. As the Head of Secure AI Infrastructure, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the security infrastructure that enables our AI research and deployment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and Lead a Team of Experts: Assemble and lead a small team of cryptographers and trusted computing experts to develop and implement secure AI infrastructure.
  • Develop Secure Infrastructure Primitives: Design and develop infrastructure security primitives, including remote attestation, secure boot, and verified boot, to protect OpenAI's AI infrastructure.
  • Innovate and Improve Security Controls: Collaborate with internal and external partners to design, develop, and implement security controls that advance AI security, including confidential computing for GPUs.
  • Evaluate and Improve Security Tools and Frameworks: Regularly evaluate security tools and frameworks, identifying areas for improvement or upgrades to ensure the effectiveness and robustness of security solutions.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with internal partners across the organization and external partners across the software and hardware supply chain to design, develop, and implement security controls that advance AI security.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Expertise in Secure Software Development: Proven experience in developing secure software solutions and infrastructure components.
  • Applied Cryptography and Hardware/Low-Level Security: Expertise in applied cryptography, hardware/low-level security, and datacenter engineering.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, C/C++, or similar.
  • Research Experience: Research experience at the frontiers of trusted computing and applied cryptography is preferred.
  • Security Practices: Experience with security practices such as threat models, risk assessment, and security protocols.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a cross-functional team environment, with a strong focus on leadership and team management.
