REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President of Philanthropy

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of Volunteer Engagement is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and facilitating the activities of the Symphony Volunteer Association (SVA). This role acts as the primary connection between the SVA, its members, and various departments within the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO). The ideal candidate is dedicated to volunteerism, skilled in recruitment, advocacy, and possesses exceptional organizational abilities. This position collaborates extensively with the SLSO team to ensure outstanding volunteer experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, guide, and manage all facets of the SVA in partnership with the SVA President and Executive Committee, including volunteer assistance for concerts, educational initiatives, and fundraising activities.
  • Act as the main point of contact between the SVA and SLSO staff.
  • Support the SLSO Philanthropy team in identifying SVA members as potential donors and facilitate appropriate connections.
  • Assist in the stewardship of SVA donors as necessary.
  • Plan and manage the budget for the SVA.
  • Provide support to other members of the Philanthropy team as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge: Familiarity with volunteer-driven philanthropy programs, database management, and solicitation strategies. Proficient in development and office software, social media, and marketing tools. Experience with Wufoo or similar platforms for event and volunteer management is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years in fundraising or membership roles, with experience working with volunteers in dynamic environments. Strong judgment, diplomacy, and relationship management skills are essential.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgment in problem-solving and managing various situations.
  • Capability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent public speaking skills for both in-person and virtual engagements.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects from inception to completion.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, for various SVA and SLSO events.
  • A genuine passion for the arts and a commitment to the mission of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, with knowledge of orchestral music preferred.

This is a part-time position with a competitive hourly wage based on experience and qualifications.

About the SVA:

The Symphony Volunteer Association has a rich history dating back to 1904. Initially focused on fundraising, the SVA has evolved to emphasize stewardship and education in recent years. The SVA continues to pursue significant goals in these areas and aims to expand its membership as part of the Friends of the Symphony initiative. Volunteers engage in various projects that support the SLSO's mission to enrich lives through the power of music.
