Health Information Management Specialist

This is a casual call position at Bozeman Health, requiring a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to collect, organize, evaluate, and index patient medical records from various hospital departments and clinics. The successful candidate will review records for accuracy and completeness, maintaining and organizing legacy records while adhering to Montana Code and HIPAA regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Greet and assist customers with professionalism and courtesy.
- Verify the accuracy of document information, correct discrepancies, and index appropriately.
- Manage and update the Master Patient Index (MPI).
- Index, retrieve, and manage historical data from legacy systems and paper charts.
- Provide cross-functional training across the entire department.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Medical Record and customer service experience (preferred).
- Previous experience working with Montana Code and HIPAA regulatory guidelines, including release of information (ROI) (preferred).
- Previous experience with HIPAA regulations (preferred).
- Detail-oriented, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize.
- Computer applications, MS Office, EMR, internet applications, and standard office equipment.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Self-directed, completes assignments accurately, thoroughly, and with minimal oversight.
- Strong emotional intelligence, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
