Position Overview:

As a Breast Imaging Specialist, you will operate under both direct and indirect supervision to conduct mammography examinations, ensuring adherence to physician oversight. You will be responsible for the monitoring and quality assurance of all mammographic studies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and document patient history and breast assessment data, integrating this information into the Radiology PACS system.
  • Execute mammography procedures, positioning patients appropriately, applying necessary compression, and providing immobilization and counseling as needed. Select optimal technical factors and protocols tailored to each patient. Collaborate with colleagues and consult with Radiologists as required. Maintain accurate records of performed examinations. May assist in stereotactic biopsy procedures and support the Mobile Health Vehicle as necessary.
  • Adhere to all National Patient Safety Goals. Verify patient identity using established criteria before conducting the ordered study. Ensure accuracy in data entry while safeguarding patient privacy and confidentiality. Document required information in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Prepare sterile environments as directed; manage floor stock medications; ensure the sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables for the assigned area. Maintain sufficient supplies throughout procedures.
  • Assist Radiologists during examinations and procedures, capturing specific mammography images and aiding in biopsy specimen collection. Demonstrate proficiency in operating all features and capabilities of mammography systems, performing quality control (QC) as necessary.
  • Post-process and conduct quality control (QC) of mammography images as required; prepare images for Radiologist interpretation and transmit them to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all departmental equipment and devices, reporting any malfunctions as appropriate.
  • Address patient needs throughout procedures, providing compassionate communication to alleviate fear and stress; explain procedures, answer questions, and offer encouragement. Ensure a personalized and caring patient atmosphere at all times. Assist with patient transport as needed.
  • Provide guidance on safety measures to patients, family members, and hospital staff; ensure compliance with safety protocols. Implement measures to minimize radiation exposure in accordance with ALARA principles, documenting radiation doses delivered during procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the resuscitation team during emergency situations.
  • Maintain necessary materials and linen supplies daily; uphold cleanliness and order in the assigned room.
Qualifications:
Experience
  • At least one (1) year of general radiology experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of a training program in the specialty area.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of mammography experience.
Education
  • Associate's degree in radiologic technology or two (2) years of experience in a related field.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support or CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification.
  • Radiographer License (Hawaii) required upon hire.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Mammography Technologist.
