POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Project Engineer is tasked with overseeing and executing projects that support the development and production of pharmaceutical drug substances, intermediates, and fine chemicals. This role involves managing multiple projects across various disciplines, including civil, mechanical, equipment and facilities design and installation, technology transfer, and product delivery. Key responsibilities include ensuring project cost, schedule, and quality control, as well as compliance with regulatory laws and practices throughout the project lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Leading collaboration with project owners and supporting staff to establish project business cases and objectives, ensuring all relevant alternatives are assessed and the recommended solutions are endorsed by local staff and management. Effectively communicating proposals and building consensus among project stakeholders and management.
  • Reviewing project designs for adherence to engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Leading evaluations of the feasibility and integrity of proposed engineering designs and procedures.
  • Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing the entire engineering effort for projects to ensure success. Managing cost estimates and capital requests, as well as overseeing purchasing and contracting activities to guarantee timely and cost-effective provision of equipment and services.
  • Developing and assessing plans and criteria for projects and activities to be executed by others, securing resources for specific project phases such as technical studies, system design, and construction.
  • Facilitating timely resolution of disputes and conflicts with external contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Overseeing project qualifications, including operational performance, ensuring the delivery of specified project outcomes.
  • Managing project activities that encompass user requirement specifications, scope development, process design, funding requests, equipment system evaluations, project controls, implementation logistics, and qualification efforts.
LEADERSHIP & BUDGET MANAGEMENT

This role involves providing leadership and management for assigned projects, developing scopes, justifications, cost budgets, personnel requirements, and timelines to ensure all major project objectives are achieved. Fostering a positive project team atmosphere that enhances employee morale is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical or Fine Chemical Industry, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents, with the ability to respond to inquiries from customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including advanced calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory, along with basic accounting and financial principles as they relate to project management.
  • Demonstrated ability in engineering project management and construction management, with knowledge of project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and change order systems.
