Responsibilities:
  • Design and analysis, along with insight and oversight of work performed by others
  • Apply analyses to pre-test predictions of component performance and to assessing ground test/flight data
  • Utilize analysis and test/flight data to characterize the component environments and establish if the turbomachinery meets established design requirements and design goals
  • Support team on all steps of the turbomachinery design, development, integration, analysis, test, and problem identification/resolution process
  • Attend training classes to expand and/or sharpen turbomachinery skills
  • Develop and implement new design concepts and design improvement
  • Support bearing lab testing and data analysis. Support design and construct of bearing test labs
  • Collaborate with other engineers to resolve technical issues
  • Create scripts for automated testing
  • Attend technical interchanges, project planning, design review, and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. Review requirements and implement risk management processes
  • Document and deliver results with recommendations
  • Perform other duties related to liquid rocket engine analyses and systems engineering as assigned
Qualifications
  • BS plus minimum of 5 years of experience, or MS plus minimum of 3 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited university
  • Strong interest in turbines/pumps with emphasis on turbines
  • Theoretical background in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery principles desired
  • Attention to details and strong organization skills
  • Familiarity with and experience in systems engineering processes and applications is desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required
  • Basic programming skills desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Must be comfortable working across organizational boundaries to identify and resolve engine/vehicle integration issues

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
