Purpose Statement:

The role of the Student Support Advocate is designed to assist junior high school students who may be struggling academically and require additional support. The primary responsibilities will include guiding students on their Road to Graduation within the educational environment. Under the supervision of the designated Lead Counselor, the advocate will help students develop their skills, receive necessary support, and engage with educational stakeholders while providing educational guidance. This includes offering academic support to enhance students' skills, utilizing class time for instruction and remediation, maintaining essential records and files on students, and communicating progress with parents/guardians and teachers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate must exhibit a genuine desire to positively impact students' lives. The advocate is responsible for offering guidance and support to ensure students meet academic and behavioral standards necessary for progression to the next grade level or graduation. Responsibilities include connecting students and their families with school and community resources, monitoring attendance and behavior, and maintaining communication with administration, counselors, students, and families.
  • The advocate may also collaborate with students in the Weber Innovation Early College High School as part of their support network.
  • Tasks will include completing progress charts, advising students on effective study habits, tracking attendance, advocating for students, and promoting the program within the junior high.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with students and their families to foster a continuous partnership between school and home.
  • Assess student progress, including attendance, academic performance, and behavioral data.
  • Coordinate with community partners to enhance available resources.
  • Maintain precise records of interactions with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Engage in stakeholder conferences to develop actionable student plans.
  • Assist in supervising students during both instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Contribute to a positive school environment through interactions with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Uphold confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Perform moderate to extensive physical activities, including frequent standing or walking.
  • Facilitate the social and emotional development of students.
  • Enhance professional skills through ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in staff meetings at both the site and district levels.
Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, maintain accurate records, utilize relevant software applications, and apply problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of instructional and tutorial procedures, intervention strategies, age-appropriate activities, child development stages, and safety practices.
Job Qualifications:
  • Experience: Relevant job-related experience is required.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
