Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Offset Press Assistant II to join our team at TSG - The Sheridan Group. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for assisting in the routine aspects of press operation, including jogging signatures and removal and replacement of skids, while continually reviewing signature quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with oncoming workers at shift change to ensure seamless transition of tasks.
  • Remove and replace skids using a Big Joe and Hand Truck, ensuring efficient and safe operation.
  • Lift and move stacks of end boards and rolls of banding strap as needed, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Train other personnel as instructed, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and development.
  • Maintain a safe and clean press area, adhering to quality inspection guidelines and company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, demonstrating a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, enabling seamless collaboration with team members.
  • Basic skills in reading and writing, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, enabling proactive identification and resolution of issues.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to take stacks (averaging 10-20 lbs.) off the end of a press (2-4 feet high) and stack product on skids from floor level to 5 feet high, using repetitive hand/wrist movement and bending.
  • Ability to remove skids (weighing up to 2,400 lbs.) using a Big Joe and Hand Truck, ensuring efficient and safe operation.
  • Ability to lift stacks of end boards (30 lb.) and rolls of banding strap (60 lb.) as needed, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Ability to move logs as needed without lifting them, standing them up or lying them down.
  • Ability to adjust stacker using a touch screen, ensuring accurate and efficient operation.
  • Ability to stand up to 12 hours on a cement floor, adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts plus overtime as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
