OVERVIEW

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

Status: Full-Time, Regular, Exempt

Reports To: Meal Ministries Manager

Hours: Thursday - Monday (8 AM - 4:30 PM), Flexible for Sundays and Special Events as necessary

The Burnside Shelter operates 24/7, providing essential services to individuals facing homelessness and addiction. Our compassionate staff deliver resource-rich care, fostering relationships that support personal growth and transition away from street life. POSITION SUMMARY

The Culinary Services Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering tens of thousands of meals annually through collaboration with volunteers, program participants, and community partners. This position is responsible for equipping and mentoring participants in essential culinary skills while ensuring adherence to food safety standards and efficient resource management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Deliver nourishing meals to guests and program participants through effective menu planning, procurement, and preparation of balanced dishes that reflect hope and hospitality.
  2. Ensure compliance with all food service regulations during meal preparation and service.
  3. Exemplify and share Christian values through mentorship and collaboration with program participants and volunteers.
  4. Train program participants in vocational skills related to meal production and service.
  5. Foster a positive kitchen environment by addressing conflicts, promoting teamwork, and maintaining healthy relationships.
  6. Engage and develop volunteers to provide compassionate meal services to guests.
  7. Manage donations effectively, collaborating with meal ministry staff to minimize waste and control food costs.
  8. Organize and maintain cleanliness and safety in food storage and preparation areas, training others in best practices.
  9. Coordinate with health department and compliance organizations to meet and exceed accountability standards.
  10. Participate in various ministry activities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to spiritual growth.
  2. A calling to serve individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction.
  3. Active involvement in a church community, demonstrating spiritual maturity.
  4. Adherence to the organization's Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics.
  5. A work ethic that aligns with the mission's values: relational, Christ-centered, and service-oriented.
  6. Expertise in culinary services with the ability to plan and prepare approximately 900 meals daily.
  7. Certification in food service or equivalent experience.
  8. Possession of a food handler's card or willingness to obtain one.
  9. Ability to maintain kitchen equipment and environment.
  10. Proven leadership skills in guiding volunteers and groups in effective service.
  11. Familiarity with the challenges faced by individuals in the homeless community.
  12. Competence in using software tools such as Excel and Outlook.
  13. Valid driver's license and experience with food transportation vehicles.
  14. Physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted.

EQUIPMENT USED

Forklift, Box Truck, Ovens, Stovetops, Tilt Skillets, and other necessary food preparation equipment.
